I have always thought my communication skills were really good and I could get my message across without any problems....until
I started doing some research on "Effective Communication" for a PowerPoint presentation.
Well, I was in for a big surprise!!
There is so much more to communication than just sending an email or picking up the phone for a chat.

Well, I was in for a big surprise!!
There is so much more to communication than just sending an email or picking up the phone for a chat.
With our very busy lives, and time always seems to be of the essence, we need to ensure our messages get to the recipient in an organised, clear, well planned manner so that there can be no misinterpretations at the outset. we just don't have the time to have messages going back and forth due to misunderstandings.
In the next few weeks I am going to put together some easy steps to follow to help get us communicating more effectively and efficiently. this not only applies to our personal lives but, and perhaps more importantly, our professional lives. I think our families will forgive us.
The following will give you some idea of what I am going to include:

- Importance of communication
- Barriers and how to overcome them
- A check list to help ensure we have all our "ducks in a row"
- Communicating at work, in meetings, as an individual
- listening skills - can you believe that most of us don't listen properly. No wonder my kids don't do as they are told, they haven't heard half of what I have said to them.
- Writing skills - have you ever received a long email that at the end of it (if you have even had the time to finish reading it), you still were not sure what it was all about
We are all going to become top-notch communicators and improve our effectiveness and efficiency in the work place and at home.
